BET Awards: Burna Boy, Cardi B, Drake, others honoured, see list of award winners



Nigerian rave of the moment, Burna Boy last night won the award for the Best International Act category at Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards 2019 Edition took place at the Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.

The event started with a performance from American rapper and songwriter, Cardi B, who came into the night leading with 7 nominations but picked up two awards: best female hip-hop artist, and album of the year for Invasion of Privacy.

Another budding Nigerian artist, Teni the Entertainer, however, lost the best new international act to South African artist, ShoMadjozi.

She had earlier commented on the houses and cars she had been seeing around the city via her post form her Instagram page.

Also, the late Nipsey Hussle was honoured with a posthumous award for best male hip-hop artist with his mother taking the stage in an emotional way recounting of the day he was shot.

He was also given a special humanitarian award, to acknowledge the work he had done on social mobility in the city.

John Legend and DJ Khaled also took the stage and performed a musical tribute to Hussle, and the red carpet at the Microsoft theatre in Los Angeles was turned blue, in respect to the gang colours of the Crip gang he grew up with.

Beyoncé and Bruno Mars won the pop/R&B categories, while the rap trio Migos won best group.

Lil Baby won best new artist, while Michael B Jordan and Regina Kelly won the acting categories, Serena Williams and Stephen Curry went home with the sports awards.

Spike Lee’s film BlacKkKlansman was also named best movie.

Nollywood actress, Cossy Ojiakor has promised any journalist who will first interview the producer of Itohan, Lucky Ewan a cash reward of N5,000.

The music art who lambasted a journalist, who she claimed destroyed what the movie stands for, which is against human trafficking.

She bared her mind below via her Instagram

“The first journalist to find and interview Lucky Ewa the producer of Itohan gets a 5k recharge card. …. his view will really make a great read,” she wrote.

“Where is Lucky Ewa. The Producer of Itohan the controversial movie.

“Why can’t a Nigerian journalist interview him…… The story was a lovey one…it was meant to throw light on human trafficking but the useless evil man that calls himself a journalist destroyed what the movie stod for. I deserve an award for the role I played.

“Lucky Ewa is a tall handsome man from Edo… he is married to a lovely woman and kids….. the last time I saw him was in Surulere… pls can any journalist find him and interview him…. so as to shut the mouth of the devils incarnate who calls himself a journalist.”
