WAEC

The West African Examinations Council has finally open up on the much anticipated 2019 WASSCE results. WAEC says results should be expected “within the next 24 hours”.

Demianus G. Ojijeogu, the head of public relations of WAEC Nigeria gave out this information in the early hours of Thursday, July 25, through the official Facebook page of the commission.

According to the declaration, the 2019 WASSCE results will be accessible no later than Friday, July 26.

The statement reads:

“candidates who are not indebted to the council will be able to access and check their results online, using the results checker pin on their smart identity cards used during the conduct of the examination.”

Abubakar Gana, the acting registrar of NECO, said that this way, the body had broken the monopoly of WAEC, claiming that since its establishment in 1999, WAEC had had no choice but to live up to its responsibilities.

Gana said:

“Since 2000, we have been conducting examinations and one advantage I want you to understand is that we have given WAEC a wakeup call and they are now living to their responsibility.

“You may recall that there were times in the past where universities and other tertiary institutions took very longer period for them to admit students.

“But with our coming, we started releasing results within 90 days, which is a period between three months. We started like that but as I am talking to you today, the last release we had was 43 days.”

Buhari purposely denying youths right to education and challenge misrule – AASU

Published

Buhari new appointments

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has berated President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy on education as anti-masses.

The academic group accused the Federal Government of a deliberate plan to starve public education with funds in order to deny Nigerian youths the right to know and challenge misrule.

AASU in a statement released in Ibadan and signed by the Chairman, University of Ibadan Chapter of the union, Prof. Deji Omole, lamented that the sacrifices of understaffed and underpaid Nigerian academia would be futile if President Buhari did not increase funding for education.

Citing the University of Ibadan as an example of an institution presently groaning due to paucity of funds, insufficient staff, decayed infrastructure and bad laboratories, Omole claimed that education was not the priority of the Buhari government.

According to him. the paucity of funds has denied over 500,000 Nigerian children who desire public university education, adding that they were rejected annually due to decayed infrastructure and reduced manpower.

He, therefore, stated that unless urgent steps were taken to cater to the needs of children of the Nigerian masses, many of them would fight back with crime.

“Education is not the priority of this government. Due to paucity of funds, many universities including the University of Ibadan, the nation’s premier university, cannot admit many qualified candidates into the universities.

“This is dangerous to the society as the rejected qualified and brilliant candidates may eventually take to crimes because the country has rejected them. The policy is not only wicked but criminal,” ASUU lamented.
