The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to curb insecurity, endorsing he open letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President describing it as “timely”.

Obasanjo had written to the president lamenting the current security situation in the country, saying the country is driving towards anarchy if the situation is not given urgent attention.

CAN President, Rev Supo Ayokunle, at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, urged Buhari to treat the letter “with all sense of responsibility and accountability”.

“CAN is interested in the letter being treated with all sense of responsibility and accountability as a country because of the issues raised in it. I think the aim of the writer is to call the attention of the nation to things that are capable of setting the nation on fire.

“We think that every Nigerian has the right to caution the leaders,” the Christian body said.

Speaking on happenings in Taraba state, the CAN president explained the security situation in the state where his deputy, Rev Caleb Ahima, could not travel out of his parish without military protection.
